SAXON CURRICULUM:
SAXON
- comprehensive curriculum full of instructionally sound and highly motivating activities
- children’s needs and abilities are fully respected
- based on the premise that children thrive through a combination of predictable routines, a safe and nurturing environment and high expectations
- strong emphasis on oral language development
- instructional design promotes incremental development and continual review
- broken down into 3 segments-I Wonder, I Discover, I Explore-Each segment lasts approx. 3 months for 9 months of total instruction
- there is 1 monthly theme and 4 sub-themes (1 for each week of the month)
- total of 9 themes and 36 sub-themes comprise the 36 weeks of instruction
I Wonder-children feel comfortable about being in school as they consider new ideas about themselves, their friends and their family members
I Discover-prepares children for the primary grades by introducing topics like weather, seasons, their neighborhood, their community and the world of living things
I Explore-children examine the physical world around them; they begin to understand how living things are found in a variety of habitats; they learn to appreciate the world of imagination through art, literature, music and movement
